William Watkins

William Lewis Watkins, age 91, passed away June 16, 2020, in Roanoke, Texas. He was born in Loudon, Tennessee on May 27, 1929. He went by Lew to his friends and Papo to his grandkids. Lew loved guns, gardening, woodworking, painting, and sewing. His greatest love was his wife Gloria. A man of few words, if you enjoyed hearing his stories that meant he liked you. He served honorably in the Korean War. He sang until his final hours. William is survived by his wife, Gloria S. Watkins; children, William (Bud) L. Watkins, II, Gilbert S. Watkins, Michael R. Watkins, and Ann M. Watkins De Ville; grandchildren, Danial Watkins, Lena Watkins, Bianca Watkins Sanchez, Madalyn Watkins, Joseph Watkins, Lucas De Ville, Lorelei De Ville; greatgrandchildren, Corin Elizabeth Wolbrecht, Violet Marie Wolbrecht, Ellie Marie Sanchez; siblings, sisters Harriet Byington and Myrtle Ann Koelemay, and sister-in-law, Margaret Waters Watkins; nieces, Mitzi Byington Lovell, Rai Louise Barnett, Lucretia Koelemay, Mary Koelemay, Jeanne Watkins, Beth Watkins Henderson; nephews, Gerald Byington, Steve Byington, Larry Koelemay, John Byington, Patrick Watkins. William was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Joseph R. Watkins and his mother, Mary Lou Roberson Watkins, his brothers, Joe Watkins, Alger Watkins, and son Joseph Watkins. Friends and family will gather Friday, July 3 2020 at 2:00 p.m. to celebrate William's life. The Memorial service will be held at Keller’s Old Town Funeral Home, 220 Keller Parkway Keller, Texas 76248. Services will be lived streamed as well at Keller's Old Town Facebook page.
