William Smith

William “Bill” Smith, 77, of Loudon, Tennessee passed away unexpectedly on December 21st, 2020 in Knoxville, Tennessee. William was born on September 13, 1943 in Conneaut, Ohio to parents William and Genevieve Smith (nee Kellogg). He was raised by Genevieve and Homer Devereaux, after losing his father at a young age.

William grew up in Northern Illinois and attended Palatine High School. Bill became a standout wrestling, football and track athlete and picked up the nickname “Bullet.” His work ethic on the field carried through to his career.  As a professional contractor, he was the fastest, most meticulous painter in town, and prided himself with sharing his tricks of the trade with many other tradesmen.

He reveled in telling stories of his athletic feats and his time in the Army National Guard, although his happiest moments included carpooling his kids to sporting events, taking pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren,  and cheering on his Chicago sports teams. He will be remembered for his love for smooth jazz, his dedication to family, his devotion to God and his enduring wit.

William is survived by his wife Janet Smith (nee Failla), children William Jr. (Kellie) Smith, Michele (Gary) Genova, Nicolette Smith, brothers Steve (Sue) Devereaux, Chuck (Joanie) Devereaux, grandchildren Hannah, Jessica, Moriah and Jonathan Genova, the mother of his first two children, Barbara Morrisey, his beloved fur babies Kane, Tucker, Kiah, Nacho and Bruno, and dozens of loving nieces, nephews and in-laws. He is preceded in death by his parents.
