Carolyn Sue Maples lived a wonderful and inspiring life. Carolyn passed away peacefully at home on Thursday morning, July 7, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Ruby Smith, as well as her brother Stephen Smith. She is survived by her husband of nearly 41 years Paul Maples, her sister Janie Black, her stepchildren Jeannie Ullrich (Peter Ullrich), and Susanne Guy (Mason Guy). She was a loving grandmother survived by six grandchildren Abraham Ullrich, Jennica Ullrich, Rockne Ullrich, Bradley Guy, Matthew Guy, and Bridget Guy. She also was a loving aunt of her nephew Craig Black (Elizabeth Black) and their children Joel Black, Elenora Black, and Peter Black, and her nieces Alison Trammell (Brandon Trammell) and their children, Asa, Jonathan, Audrey and Leaf, and Alesha Cronkright (Casey Cronkright) and their children Charlie and Ozzy. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Mark Maples. Carolyn was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and afterwards taught English at Oak Ridge High School. When she left ORHS, she moved to West Tennessee where she worked for Goodyear. After a time she moved back to Oak Ridge where she worked as a supervisor at K-25. Eventually she transferred to procurement until she retired. Carolyn was an avid reader. She also enjoyed the outdoors, especially flowers of all kinds. She was also an active member Baptist faith and love Christ with all her heart.
Services will be held at Loudon Funeral Home on Saturday, July 9, 2022. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3pm with the funeral to follow at 3. Interment will be on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at Sunset Memorial Park in Mountain City, Tennessee at 2pm.
