Shirley J. Hicks, age 90, of Loudon, passed away on May 26, 2026. Her final days were spent surrounded by her loving family.
Shirley attended Loudon High School and retired from Yale Lock Company, where she worked as an inspector. She attended Bethel United Methodist Church and was a member of the choir.
She enjoyed her retirement by staying active through walking, attending her great-grandchildren’s activities, and spending treasured time caring for them. Shirley also loved working in her flowers and reading fiction. One of her greatest joys was visits from her niece Judy Hughes and talking every day on the phone with her niece, Josephine Sims, in Virginia. In August 2023, she moved to The Neighborhood, where she loved participating in activities and made many treasured friendships.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl “Bud” Hicks Jr.; parents, Ed Presley and Olivia Tallent Presley; grandchildren, Zeke Lineham and Jennifer Adriene Bright; and brothers and sisters, Gladys Russell, Ruth Harmon, Billy Presley, Mildred Roberts, Wilma Sherill, and Jim Presley; brother-in-law Raymond Hicks and sister-in-law Carrie Nichols.
Shirley is survived by her children, Yvonne (Preston) Bright, Jeff Hicks, and Beth Lineham; grandchildren, Stephanie Bright Hatcher, Matt Bright, Mark Bright, Josh Lineham, Misty Lineham Ryan, and Zach Lineham; and great-grandchildren, Kayley Bright, Adisson Bright, Kayden Hatcher, Julia Hatcher, Graham Ryan, Owen Ryan, Victoria Lineham, and Lucas Lineham; sisters-in-law Lillie "Tootsie" Nicholson, Bettye Allen and Patsy Houston.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to The Neighborhood for the loving care they provided to Shirley.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pat Summitt Foundation https://patsummitt.org/ or to a favorite charity of your choice.
There will be a graveside service held on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at 6:00pm at Loudon County Memorial Gardens.
