Listen to Obituary

Sandra Lee Johnson (née Goyen), 77, of Oswego, Illinois, born in Ishpeming, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.

Sandra, affectionately known as Sandy, was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, faithful friend, and beloved wife. She is survived by her three sons: Don (Carolyn) Evans, Mark (Wendy) Evans, and Eric (Mari) Evans. She also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren: Jason (Ashley), Niklas (Mary Claire), LeeAnn (Victor), Emilia (Steve), Nicolette (Troy), and Vanessa, as well as her treasured great-grandson, Chase. Her family was her greatest joy, and she loved watching each generation grow. Sandy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Syd Johnson, and her parents, Cleo and Mayme Goyen. Her family finds comfort in knowing she has been reunited with them in heaven.

Sandy retired from Lucent Technologies after a successful career as a Software Engineer. She approached her work with intelligence, dedication, and perseverance.

In retirement, Sandy generously devoted countless hours volunteering with Sharing Connections, an organization that brings together community members by providing gently used furniture, household items, and clothing to families in need. She found great purpose in serving others and quietly making a difference in her community.

In recent years, Sandy experienced a profound spiritual renewal. She found her church family at Restore Church in Yorkville, where she discovered who God created her to be and embraced the life she was meant to live. One of the proudest moments of her life was being baptized there in September of 2025, publicly declaring her faith in Jesus Christ.

She found peace and happiness at her sanctuary on Bass Lake in Gwinn, Michigan. She enjoyed relaxing in the sauna, floating on the lake in her special chair and sitting around the campfire, she embraced every moment. Whether tending her flower garden, playing cards with family and friends, or happily binge-watching an uninterrupted movie series, Sandy appreciated life's simple pleasures and the time spent with those she loved.

Sandy will be remembered for her resilient strength, caring heart, enduring faith, and the love she shared so generously with her family and friends. Her memory will continue to live on in the lives she touched and the family she loved so deeply. As a child of God, she is now at peace with her Savior and joyfully reunited with the love of her life. Until we see you again, we'll find you in the butterflies and dragonflies.

A Celebration of Life for Sandy will be held on Thursday, August 20 at Restore Church, 8710 State Route 71 in Yorkville, IL. Open Visitation from 5:00pm-7:00pm and a Memorial Program starting at 7:00pm. In accordance with her wishes, please wear your casual clothing - bright, cheerful and colorful. Sandy never passed up on a scoop of ice cream, so in her honor, it will be served from 5pm-8pm. A private ceremony to spread her ashes will be held by her family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sandy's honor to:Sharing Connections through this link: Donate Here
