Raymond Yates- beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend- peacefully passed away at his home on Friday, August 9, 2024.
Raymond was born in Clintwood, Virginia on March 20, 1943, to Reuben and Myrtle Yates but became a long-time resident of Loudon, TN.
He was a Vietnam veteran who enlisted in the US Army in 1965 until his honorable discharge in 1970.
Five years later, Raymond met his wife, Dorothy, in Houston, TX. They were married on July 12, 1975, and welcomed their first child, Jonathan, four years later. Soon to follow, they became a family of six with the addition of David, Sidney, and Andrea.
Raymond spent most of his career at Newcomb Machine and Welding where he later retired. Often, he was the first one to work so that he could ensure the workspace and coffee was ready for his co-workers when they arrived. He was a man that everyone could depend on to be there when he was needed.
Being a husband, father, and grandfather was a pride for Raymond. He loved sitting on his rocking chair on his front porch watching his grandkids play in the yard and would brag on them any chance he could get. He loved his family devotedly.
Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Myrtle; his brothers: Robert, Ray, Gay and Jerry; and his sisters: Rita, Cora, and Kat.
He is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Dorothy; their children: Jonathan (wife LaStar), David, Sidney Hart (husband Allen), and Andrea Miller (husband Linell); as well as their seven grandchildren: Baylee, Xander, and Coby Yates; Jake, Jackson, and Adalyn Yates; and Easton Miller.
The family would like to thank all the neighbors who looked out for and cared for Raymond on his many walk abouts around the neighborhood. And to all the healthcare providers, thank you for your care during this time. Your kindness is truly appreciated
Anyone who ever encountered Raymond Yates is better for it. He was a man of integrity, of dependability, and of pure love for his family and friends.
