Peggy Hein, age 74 of Loudon passed away peacefully Friday, October 2, 2026, at her home. Peggy was a faithful and lifelong member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Loudon where she made a joyful noise in the choir and mentored many young adults in Sunday School. A graduate of Loudon High School class of 1970, Peggy played trumpet in the band and spent 4 years on the girls’ basketball team. Peggy went on to attend the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where she graduated with honors and received her Bachelor of Arts degree. This began her Vol for Life adventure. If it was orange she supported it! Wherever Peggy set up shop she was surrounded by orange and white. Peggy spent her working career in the wholesale and retail lumber and hardware business starting at the Carter Lumber Company. Peggy spent many years managing the Village Home Center until her retirement. Not wanting to sit idle, she took the call from Wilburn’s in Lenoir City to continue her service to the community. Among her many other accomplishments, Peggy and sister Nancy restored an old cabin that sits on the family farm. She was a loyal and loving caretaker to many ailing family members and a very special “cool” aunt to two precious nieces. In her travels Peggy visited more than 150 lighthouses on the East Coast and Canada, she enjoyed whale watching and sticking her feet in the sand. For more than 25 years she would venture to the beach and mountains with her friends, the Volettes and their families, to enjoy time together. Peggy loved her Lord, her family and her many friends and gave the best bear hugs you would ever get…and oh, a good Medium Rare Filet!
Peggy was preceded in death by her father, Gail F. Hein. She is survived by her mother, Winnie Hein of the home; her sisters, Rev. Marilyn Hein, Raleigh, NC and Nancy Simpson of the home and Beverly and husband Rick Barkley, PA; nieces who were like her daughters, Laura and husband Joel Hilsden, Columbia, TN and Lyndee and husband David Singleton, Lenoir City, TN; great nieces and nephew, Noa, Shai and Naomi; and a host of special cousins
Services remembering Peggy Hein will be held 6:00 PM Tuesday, October 6th at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mark Hester officiating. Interment 11:30 AM Wednesday, October 7th in Steekee Cemetery. The family will receive friends 4:30 – 6:00 PM Tuesday prior to the service at the Church, 503 College St., Loudon.
