Melvin Eugene Johnson

Born in Loudon, TN on May 8, 1935 to the late Clarence Johnson and Edith Snider Johnson, Gene was a long-time member of Living Hope Church of God, in Greensboro. He was a past member of the Greensboro Lions Club and retired from Gilbarco after 34 years of employment. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, great great-grandfather, uncle, and friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Smithers.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 68 years, Martha Hooker Johnson; daughter, Sheila J. Burcham and her husband Teddy M. Burcham, Jr.; sons, Eugene Johnson, Jr. and his wife Denise and Bruce Johnson and his wife Beth; brothers, Ronnie Johnson (Maxine) and Eddie Johnson; sisters, Patsy Sutton, Connie Mooney, Janie Wallace (Joe) and Pam Gallaher (Jerry); grandsons, Teddy “Marc” Burcham, III (Stephanie), Shane Johnson (Brittany), Eric Johnson (Leah), BJ Johnson (Sarah), Bryant Johnson (Sara); granddaughters, Tracy Lynn Gibbs (Joshua), Trisha Leigh Sayers (Scott), great-grandchildren, Kaylee Nicole Gibbs, Joshua Gibbs, II, Austin Hoover, Aiden Bundy, Kennedi Johnson, Brooklyn Johnson, Logan Johnson, Amelia Johnson, Jett Johnson, Braxton Johnson; great great-grandchildren, Caroline Gibbs, Allie Johnson and Jacob Johnson; and other extended family and friends.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to their Dad’s nurse, Nicole Drummond. 

A graveside service will be held at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery in on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 2:00 pm. Loudon Funeral Home and Cremations is assisting the Johnson family.
