Katherine 'Kathy' Proaps

Katherine “Kathy” Henrietta Proaps, age 55, of Madisonville, passed away on May 1, 2026.

She drove a school bus in Loudon for 12 years. Kathy loved to dance and play pool and had a passion for sports cars. She was strong-willed and very independent, and a loving mother and Mamaw.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Taylor Cooper; her stepfather, Jerry Nichols; her brother-in-law, Billy Proaps; her grandparents, Harold and Henrietta Cooper and Homer and Dorothy Pierce; her uncle, Charles “Chuckie” Pierce; and her aunt, Rosie Skipper and husband, Robert.

Kathy is survived by her loving husband, Tony Proaps; her children, Cody Proaps and Mandy Proaps and husband, Barrett Chaney; her mother, Betty Ann Pierce; her mother- and father-in-law, Phyllis and Clifford Crowder; her sister, Dolores Underwood; her grandchildren, Kirsten Proaps and fiancé, Jacob Goodman, Zaiyah Chaney, Coby Proaps, and Zyler Chaney; her great-granddaughter, Aiyana Goodman; her aunt, Cathy Edwards and husband, Mario; her brothers-in-law, Barry Proaps and wife, Jessica, Mark Proaps, and Linda Proaps, Dean Allen and wife, Gwen; her sister-in-law, Tracy Crowder; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Loudon Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 1:00–3:00 PM at Loudon Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Big Toqua Cemetery.
