Gary L. Montgomery

Gary Lynn Montgomery, age 63, passed away on September 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving sisters and canine sidekick, Peanut.

Gary was a longtime resident of Knoxville, Tennessee, where he worked laying tile. He moved to Loudon when his health declined. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and taking care of his dog.

Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Judy; his parents, Howard Montgomery and Patsy Kelly; his brothers, Timothy Montgomery, James Montgomery, and Howard Montgomery Jr.; and his brother-in-law, Wayne Ketner.

He is survived by his sisters, Angela Ketner and Tina Galyon, both of Loudon; his stepmother, Jessie Montgomery; his stepbrothers, Eric Purgason and Chris Purgason, all of Knoxville; and many nieces and nephews, whom he loved like his own.

The family would like to give a special thank-you to his hospice nurses, Kathryn, Kimberly, and Jennifer, and his chaplain, Jamie Johnson. They are deeply grateful for the conversations and care they provided during the last months of his life. The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Gary’s dear friends, Yvonne and Jamie Ketner, for being there over the last several months.
