Barbara B. Smith

Barbara B. Smith, 77, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away on October 12, 2026, in Philadelphia, Tennessee.

Born in Portsmouth, Virginia, she was the daughter of Willis and Marjorie Barnes and a graduate of Roanoke College. She served in the United States Navy, attaining the rank of lieutenant before her honorable discharge. She later worked for many years as a paralegal and later as the Director of Administration at the Higher Education Center in Roanoke until her retirement in 2011. During her retirement years, she served as an administrative assistant at Calvary Memorial Church, her dearly loved covenant community.

Barbara now rests in the presence of Christ, her beloved Savior. She loved deeply and was deeply loved in return. Her family and friends will miss her dearly.

She is survived by her two brothers, Tom Barnes and Dave Barnes; her two sons, Ryan Smith and Todd Smith; her daughter-in-law, Hannah Smith; and her three grandchildren, August, Georgia, and Jude Smith.

Her burial is scheduled for Tuesday, October 20 at 2:00PM at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, Virginia.
